dxmail mysteriously exits w/core dump (DEC 3000/300, OSF1 2.1B)

We have an OSF/1 2.1B workstation that for some reason won't start dxmail
anymore. It just exits with a core dump when you try to start it. What's
really weird is that *sometimes* dxmail does start up successfully, but
mostly it doesn't. I get no diagnostic errors, just the message:
"Segmentation fault (dore dumped)".

This happens to root, as well as regular user accounts.

Does anyone have any clues as to how to troubleshoot this? I can't find
anything obvious that would cause this.

All suggestions will be appreciated.

/doug
