Quick summary: Yesterday I stated that sometimes the TC V1.6 could
upgrade the DEFTA-FA device, and othertimes it could not. All the
machines are DEC 3000 series.
I figured out this morning that it seems the DEFTA-FA firmware update
fails when the turbochannel update utility is booted (bootp) through
the card being updated. Booting the binary over the ethernet or using
the CD-ROM .exe version yield succesfull updates.
If anyone knows how I might update the DEFTA-FA firmware on machines
without a CD-ROM, floppy or ethernet connection, I would appreciate
it. For example, does mop work better? Also can I make (and how?) a
bootable winchester with the TC update utility on it so we can get
more than one person doing updates at once without buying more
firmware CDs.
