I'm seeing some really strange behavior. I have several PC's in my office
that are running various NIC's (Intel, SMC, DEC, 3COM). These PC's are
using the Pathworks V5.1 TCP/IP stack for net communications.
From these PC's I can ping other systems (a VAX, NT server, pc's can ping
each other). But some of the PC's cannot ping a Alpha 2000/400 running
OSF/1 V3.0. Whats really strange, some of the PC's can ping the Alpha fine,
while others cannot. The PC's that are having trouble are using Intel
NIC cards.
So my question: Does OSF/1 use a non standard version of ICMP protocol or
a non standard version of ping?
Any hints on how to diagnose this problem (short of having a sniffer)?
