Hi Fellow Admin Types,
I'm doing the ultimate this weekend - upgrading from OSF version 1.3
(Base Security) to 3.2 (Enhanced Security). What I'm wondering
about is moving the 400+ users to the new version. I assume that
I'll have to reinstall the accounts in order to create the proper
authorization database for each user. Is this correct? If so,
how do I go about this? I have been told by a DEC support person
that the "adduser" routine is no longer supported on version 3.2
and that I will have to use "XIsso" instead. This was something
of a shock to me as I have set up automated scripts which allow
my operators to add new accounts, and, of course, they make use
of the adduser routine. Is there a command-line version of XIsso
that I can use instead of the screen layout version?
Assuming that I am able to script something to move the old accounts
to the new version, will I be able to copy the previous encrypted
passwords currently residing in /etc/password to the authorization
database file for each user? I have used this sort of technique
before with general success. Neither I nor my operators look
forward to 400+ irritated people stampeding the office at 9.00AM
Monday morning to obtain new passwords.
Your suggestions/advice are greatly appreciated.
Cheers,
Lyn
