Last week I posted the following:

Hi,
I am having terrible problems with getting DECnet/OSI V3.0 running
on an AlphaServer 1000 4/200 running OSF/1 V3.0B. I have installed
the ECO Patch Kit 1 for DECnet/OSI V3.0 and two OS patches (lockprim.o
and kloadsrv), but am still having trouble. My question is: is
anyone else out there running ok under the exact same configuration?
I am configuring the product using 'decnetsetup basic' and want the
node to act like a Phase IV node basically, we aren't routing Phase V
and don't have any Phase V nodes, but a 'dlogin' to any Phase IV
address causes the system to crash. 2+ weeks with Digital support
has yet to help, and I'm wondering if I'm the only one in the world
having this problem :(
Thanks in advance,
Maureen

I have since been able to get DECnet/OSI running. The trick in my
case was to set the routing mode to segregated to allow Phase V and
Phase IV data to be handled independently (called "Ships in the Night"
routing). This was accomplished by the following commands:
ncl> disable routing
ncl> set routing routing mode = segregated
ncl> enable routing
and by placing the command:
ncl> set routing routing mode = segregated
in the /var/dna/scripts/start_routing.ncl file right before the 'enable
routing' line to make the change permanent.
The next version of DECnet/OSI for Digital Unix will apparently come
with this as the default mode. Thanks to *everyone* who responded to
my message, and especially to Matt Thomas (Digital) who helped me get
the product running in 10 minutes.
