Q: Reasonable value for "nice" ?

Dear Gurus,

Coming from the VMS world, I used to run many programs in the BATCH mode.
By default, the BATCH processes have a lower priority (3) than the
interactive mode (4) so that to be "nice" with other people.

I have installed NQS on my alpha/Dec Unix station. Superb piece of
software. Provides all the BATCH facilities I had under VMS and even much more.

Now a stupid question: what would be a "reasonable" default NICE value for
the BATCH processes under Unix? "Reasonable" meaning obviously
- high enough so that interactive processes are not penalized
- not too high so that the BATCH processes have good chances to complete in
  a reasonable time.

Thank you,

Jean-Loup
