Hi,
I was interested in the keyrepeat problem in the LK401 keyboards and Dec's
policy about it.
Everybody agreed that the error is indeed in the hardware. Everybody agreed
that rev. Cxx is bad. As for other revisions, the picture is not that clear.
The most conservative opinion said that only Cxx is hit by the bug, others
said that it started with Bxx, again others suggested that the problem was
fixed only in rev. F01. My guess is that there should have been two design
flaws, one in revision Cxx, which was very serious. An other, which did not
cause as much problems, was only fixed in F01 (quote: 'ESD problem as
low as 2K' -- whatever that means). The problem with Cxx is allegedly caused
by a 3rd party contractor, who did not produce the required quality.
As for showing the error: you can try to type 'gre' with 3 fingers (left
hand) very quickly (these keys are nicely positioned). For me on C01
this triggers the error with 100% efficiency. Could not do the same on
B01, but users did complain about rare keyrepeats on those, too.
As for dealing with Dec: push them real hard. Dec Engineering did confirm
the problem on at least one occasion. However this information is very
recent, so local persons might not know about it (my case -- still pushing the
local sales rep). Don't be intimidated by the arrogance of the first contact,
you are probably right. The local field person told me that he did not know
about any such problem, and he would have known it.
Thanks for all the replies (too many to list them),
