Restoring bootable disk

Hello All,

If the disk that contains the / and /usr filesystems
suddenly dies, and it has to be replaced, what would be
the best procedure to restore the operating system?

My understanding is that you have to reinstall DEC
UNIX OS and then restore customized files from
backup tapes one by one. Is this correct?

If you have any suggestions, please let me know.

Thanks
