Emacs Grabs the CPU

Hello to all:

We have an Alpha AXP 3000/400 with 96 MB, running OSF1 v. 3.2 in Lazy Memory
Management mode. We find that Emacs (current version 19.29, but this problem
existed in earlier versions too) gobbles up CPU, not only for itself, but Xdec
can take up 50% of the CPU. Compilation and execution of other programs run
*much* more slowly than when the emacs session is terminated.

Any ideas why/workaround?

                                        Thanks -- Amos Yahil
