Most everybody suggested that I boot to single user mode with
>>> boot -fl s
and then change the root password using the passwd command. I first checked and
mounted /usr and tried passwd, but it couldn't rewrite the /etc/passwd file
because it said it was a read only filesystem. This was fixed by using
# /sbin/bcheckrc
to check and mount all of the local filesystems which remounted / as read/write.
