Folks,

It turns out that the magic bullet I was looking for may not exist. I
was really looking for a command (or a couple) that I could run which
would painlessly encapsulate the root disk (including all its
partitions) and then let me mirror it.
It seems that the root encapsulation can be done in this way for the
root and swap partitions but not the /usr partition. If you want to
do the /usr partition (a bit useless if you don't) then you must:
o make a new partition somewhere else and make an fs on it
o get the /usr files onto the new fs
o make the mount point for /usr point to the new fs
o reboot
o now that the old /usr fs is not busy it can be encapsulated
o copy the files back and point /usr back to the original /usr fs
o reboot
Now you can mirror the entire root disk.
