Hi:
I just tried to apply the m400_v6_1.exe firmware upgrade to a 3000/400 and
seemed to have trashed the system. The upgrade went in ok, but the machine
does a machine check immediately after power on and most of the commands
will not work when I get the >>> after pressing the reset button. I called
Dec and asked if this was a known problem, and the hardware people told me
that the release notes said not to put this firmware on a machine below a
certain sram configuration. I have reviewed the release notes for this
firmware release twice and can find no such warning. So I thought that
I would try the experts.
1. Do you know if such a revision level problem exists, and if so what
level is needed and how do I determine if the machine meets the requirements
( I have three more machines that need the firmware revision upgrade and
am afraid to touch them till I have some assurance that the upgrade will
not trash them as well).
2. Is there a method of backing down the firmware out of the machine that
is trash, short of replacing the motherboard. Not an option that I relish.
ps. this machine upgraded to 6.0 firmware with no problem. 6.1 hosed it.
