Hello Digital Unix managers,
Since Digital Unix 3.x, we can have the / partition ruled by AdvFS.
I am researching the fastest/less cumbersome way to migrate / from
ufs to advfs. I have the possibility to add a disk "on the fly" on
my AlphaStation 3000/600 through a BA353 expansion "pizza"-box to
achieve easier moves than with a tape.
I plan the following sequence of operations :
Initial system on /dev/rz0a
Spare disk on /dev/rz8a
1- create root domain with volume /dev/rz8a
2- vdump|vrestore / to root_domain
3- change /etc/fstab for / to point on root_domain
4- reboot (to dismount active /dev/rz0a)
5- add /dev/rz0a volume to root_domain (through dxadvfs)
6- remove /dev/rz8a from root_domain (through dxadvfs)
7- reboot (for checking)
[Q]
1) Is this procedure ok/silly/useless/can-be-made-simpler ?
2) How can I create the boot blocks on root_domain (steps 3-4 and 6-7) ?
vdump-vrestore do not cater of the boot blocks nor dd (as it seems to me).
Of course, I do not want to re-install from scratch (considering the pace
of Digital Unix revisions it becomes impossible !)
Regards,
