Thanks to all who replied. This is a great group. I received about 8 replies
within 15 minutes after I sent question.

The answer is add user to system group in /etc/group file.

The problem: Most systems files and directories are owned by the group system.
Shouldn't this be a big security problem. If I add user to the system group then
I guess user doesn't have to su to root. User will have access to almost all
system.

Please reply to me direct if you agree or not.

Thanks,
Mukesh

Good Afternoon:

I can telnet in from anywhere as root to our Alpha server but I can't su to
root. I get the message that "you don't have permission to su to root".

I am running OSF/1 V3.0 with base security. I read man page for su and found
out that there is file called /etc/sia/matrix.conf controls security(base). But
I couldn't find anything in there I can change. Also I looked in to SA book
without any help.

   Will appreciate any help.

Thanks,
Mukesh
