how to kill the job access tape drive

hi there,

        I am having problems with thetape drive jobs. For some reason they
get stuck without finishing and when I try to kill the job it complains that
tape drive is busy. Cannot even kill the job as root. Any information on how to
solev this problem?. I have same problem on Ultrix machines too.
