Howdy,
Having received the 3.2C media today, I am trying to ris-load the OS to a
machine on another subnet. The route to the client, dancer, given by
'traceroute', is as follows:
 1 alntc6_36 (134.209.36.1) 1 ms 2 ms 2 ms
 2 alntc5_158 (134.209.158.4) 2 ms 2 ms 3 ms
 3 dancer (134.209.112.8) 2 ms 3 ms 2 ms
RIS has been configured such that the bootptab entry looks like,
 dancer:tc=.ris2:ht=ethernet:gw=134.209.36.21:ha=08002BBC5E54:ip=134.209.112.7:
with gw=134.209.36.21 being the ris server ( gw is the gateway entry for
bootp.) The problem comes when I try to boot the client,
 >>> boot ez0
     ...
 AUDIT_RETRY
the AUDIT entry goes to infinity and never boots. The daemon.log on the
server never shows a bootp hit. Relevent entries in the inetd.conf/services
are, respectively,
bootps dgram udp wait root	/usr/sbin/bootpd bootpd
bootp dgram udp wait root /usr/sbin/bootpd bootpd
and
bootps 67/udp bootps # bootp server
 bootpc 68/udp # bootp client
QUESTION: Is the problem related to the gw entry ? I have tried several
gw permutations, namely, the routers shown above, but, alas, without a
successful return value. Does anyone have an idea ?
TWS (Thanks, Will Summarize)
Layne
