Hi,
We're running some threaded applications on our 3000/500 running
OSF/1 v1.3a. I was trying to put the manual "Guide to DECthreads" into
our bookreader library, but running into a couple of licensing problems.
I first copied the file AA-PV6NA-TK.decw_book from the OSF/1 v1.3a/v1.3b
CDROM directory DOCUMENTATION into our standard area (/usr/lib/dxbook) and
modified library.decw_bookshelf to reference it. When I tried to read the
book, it complained that I need to have a VAX-VMS license installed onto my
system in order to acces that book. I checked to make sure that I was
running on a DEC 3000/500 AXP with OSF/1 (v1.3a), and that the CDROM did
indeed say "DEC OSF/1 for AXP Systems Versions 1.3A and 1.3B". The part
number is AG-PS3NE-XE, if it matters. My guess is that the file was
copied from a VAX/VMX distribution CDROM, and is plain wrong.
I then got a copy of the CDROM "DEC OSF/1 V2.0 for AXP Systems", part
number AG-PS3NF-XE, and found the file AA-Q2DPA-TKT1.decw_book in the
DOCUMENTATION/BOOKREADER directory. I copied this file into my library
directory, and modified the dxbook library to reference it. When I
tried to read it, it complained that I needed a license for DECTHREADS
to read it. I found the same response with another dxbook file
AA-Q2DPB-TKT1.decw_book copied from the CDROM "DEC OSF/1 V3.0 for AXP
Systems", part number AG-PS3NJ-XE.
Now, I know that all my OSF/1 systems (v1.3, v2.0, and v3.0) have
DECthreads installed, and sort of working, but I have not ever had to
install any kind of license for DECthreads. Is this really a separately
licensed product? If not, is there a way to tell the book reader to ignore
the bogus license requirement? If it is a separate product, it should not be.
Also, how did the requirement for VAX/VMS licensing show up on my
OSF/1 v1.3a for AXP distribution CDROM?
I would greatly appreciate any answers or solutions to the problems.

PS:
I need to provide some kind of on-line documentation because in our
environment of threads programming on DEC, SGI, and IBM systems, I'm the
only one with an actual hardcopy documentation of any kind on threads
programming ("Guide to DECthreads", part number AA-PV6NA-TK), and it
keeps disappearing off my shelf.
