Hi All;
We're using 3000/300lx machines as servers, running various releases from
OSF/1 V1.3 to V3.2A and would like to get some other use out of the mouse
port.
Specifically, we'd like to use it to watch the signals from a UPS.
We typically look for closure on a pair of pins on the UPS when AC
power fails.
So far we haven't been able to see anything but garbage on /dev/mouse
or a tty made with the same driver. On the older style CPUs we had
to jumper 2,3 and 6,7 (on the 15 pin plug) to allow the systems to
pass their self-tests, something not required on the later CPUs.
We thought we might just get TXD and RXD on 2 and 3 as indicated in the
owner's guide and that would be it, but guess again.
Has anyone been successful in using the mouse port as any other kind of a
serial device? Does it require a change in the kernel configs or a different
driver?

It takes longer to count to one-half than it does to count to one.
