Original question:
==================
how to get shadow passwords without all the other c2 junk.

Sure, it's a piece of cake. Just run secsetup to turn on enhanced security.
Then piddle with the /etc/auth/system/default (?) file to turn off password
aging and the other stuff. For example, the u_exp# parameter should be 0 so
users won't be forced to change their password on next login.
The other parameters you need to look at would be u_nullpw, u_restrict,
u_genpwd, u_pickpw, and u_pwdepth for starters.
Follow up question:

OK, I'll bite, but I can't find /etc/auth/system/default documented
(in any detail) in the OSF/1 3.0 bookreader data. Does someone
have a reference on this file? I lost a foot on the last cake
I baked. 8^)
