OSF1 startup and shutdown processes???

Hi, everyone.

What happens when you issue the commands 'shutdown', 'halt', and 'reboot'?
I thought with any of these command, the system will be brought down from the
normal run level 3 to rc2, then to rc0. This is how all the scripts in rc0 and
rc2 got run.

I put in a scripts (K99local.shutdown) in both rc0.d and rc2.d. Hoping it will
be executed when I shutdown or halt the system. The script never got invoked
at all. To test my script, I issued the command 'init 0' to bring down the
system and the script run correctly.

My question is do shutdown and halt commands invoke the scripts with leading K
in rc0.d and rc2.d directories?

The second question is about when the system boots up, I have this script that
starts flexlm license manager daemon. The script is in rc3.d and called
S99rc.local. I know it got executed when the system
comes up. (I have a log file to tell me that) But when I log in and use 'ps'
command to verify if the daemon is up, it never stays up. I have to manually
run the script everytime the system got rebooted. Does any one know if the
flexlm license manager daemon need to be started at any specific run level?

Many thanks.

John
