Hello,
We have a Alpha 3000/600 running OSF/1 v1.3 (I know, I know), and it
stopped allowing users to log in suddenly, including from the console.
I tried to reboot it and it failed with a 'can't open osf_boot' message.
I'm guessing that the root drive is corrupted or has failed, and I'd like
to boot up from CD so I can check the drives and see if anything is
salvagable at this point.
I've done the boot-up from the DEC OSF/1 CD, which seems to put me in
that SAS standalone environment, but I haven't been able to mount any of
the other file systems yet. Is this possible, or is there any other way
to bring up the system to a level that will allow me check things out.
And if not, does anyone know how to restore the root file system under
the SAS boot environment, without doing a complete installation.
Thanks in advance.
