I fixed the problem as soom as I was made aware of it Friday. I should
have sent something to the list to head off the flood of messages I
received about it, but I didn't.

I think ALPHAOSF_at_SLUVCA.SLU.EDU is/was actually a misconfigured
mail->news gateway. When I saw what was happening, I immediately
unsubscribed it from the list. Apparently it had a backlog or time
delay, though, because it kept going till some time Saturday.

I also sent a message to SLU on Friday, but haven't had any
response. It's bad enough they botched up their gateway and didn't
bother to notice it, but to ignore messages telling them about the
problem and asking them to fix it is downright rude.
Hopefully everything is back to normal.
