Here is my original question:

> I have APC Smart-UPS 700. I also have DEC 3000 model 300X.
> I purchased PowerChute software from APC.
> Installation was unproblematic, but after starting powrchute
> I get "Unable to connect to UPS. Check connection." error.
> The cable is OK, as I managed to find the same configuration

> Instruction only says to disable logins in /etc/inittab.
> In fact I don't have tty00 entry in this file at all.
> Do you think there is something wrong with the UPS serial port

I received 3 answers (thanks for them) from:

The answer is:
APC's PowerChute software ver. 3.13 will not support UPS of third
generation (Smart UPS 700). It will however work with Smart UPS 900
(second generation). APC representative says the new software will be
available in 2-3 months time.
