Linker patch id?

Hi Managers!

We're having problems with the linker (ld) on our OSF 3.2 machines.
The machine will become practically useless while somebody is linking.
The machine has 256Mb RAM, so that should be enough for a 100Mb
ld-process, but for some reason it will eat almost 100% _system_ cpu.

Some time ago somebody mentioned a patch to ld for Digital UNIX,
but the availability or patch number wasn't mentioned.

So:
1) Is there a linker around that doesn't read *all* the libs into
   memory?
2) Are there any vm-specific constants that could cause bad behaviour
   when a process grows very big?

my /etc/sysconfigtab:
vm:
        ubc_maxpercent=40
        ubc_borrowpercent=20
        vm_page_free_min=50
        vm_page_free_target=400

Are there any other variables that could help?

Regards, Harald
