Hi all,
Since my last posting I have received some more replies which contain
useful information beyond that in the first one.
To recap, the question related to support of the DE500-XA ethernet
interface on the ALPHAstation 200 4/100. The original summary reported
that it was, in V3.2C.
Dr. Tom Blinn <tpb_at_zk3.dec.com> confirmed that the DE500-XA was supported
under Digital UNIX V3.2C but queried whether it had been "qualified" on
the 200 4/100 and suggested I check the SPD. I have now done that and can
confirm that it is.
Herve DEMARTHE (CEA France) <demarthe_at_alpha.cad.cea.fr> reported that a
patch might be required. Rajul Shah USG <rajul_at_zk3.dec.com> confirmed that
a fix/patch was required if the DE500 was used on a fairly loaded system.
He stated that this would be available from support within a few weeks. He
also gave the following information on configuring the interface:
In the absence of console firmware support (for either booting or
setting the 10 or 100 speeds), one can use the ifconfig command to
configure the interface like so:
# ifconfig tu0 speed 10 ; selects 10 speed half-duplex
# ifconfig tu0 speed 20 ; selects 10 speed full-duplex
# ifconfig tu0 speed 100 ; selects 100 speed half-duplex
# ifconfig tu0 speed 200 ; selects 100 speed full-duplex
Alternatively, you can simply do the above during IP configuration
in your /etc/rc.config file. For example:
IFCONFIG_0="a.b.c.d netmask 255.255.255.0 speed 100"
Harald Lundberg <hl_at_tekla.fi> stated that he had also asked the
question and was told that V3.2C and firmware rev 4.2 were required.
Selden E Ball Jr <SEB_at_LNS62.LNS.CORNELL.EDU> reported that they were
running DE500's in two AlphaStation 200 4/166 systems under V3.2C.
Thanks also to Helgi Viggosson <helgi_at_ott.is> and any others who have
replied who I may have missed.
The moral of this story is : "Wait before summarising!"
