Hi,
I've received several responses to my earlier question about using
the second X screen, but I still haven't been able to solve the problem.
I guess I probably didn't present my question well. Let me redescribe
my problem:
We have a Digital AlphaStation 200/166 with *one* ZLXp-E3 24-bit graphic
controller and *one* VRT17-HA color graphic display, running Digital Unix 3.2,
DECWindows, and xterm. The 'xpdyinfo' command shows it supports two screens:
screen 0 has 8 planes, and screen 1 has 24 planes, and the default is
screen 0. The question is how to start the X server with the screen 1 as
the default screen so that all the applications will be using screen 1
with 24 planes. Using 'setenv DISPLAY :0.1' as an attempt to switch from
screen 0 to screen 1 doesn't work, probably because we only have one
physical display and this command will switch to a non-existing screen.
In fact, after I issue the 'setenv DISPLAY :0.1' command, if I try to
display an image or start emacs from within the same xterm window that I
issued the setenv command, nothing will show up on the physical screen (the
cursor dispears too). I can activate the physical screen by clicking on it,
but when I terminate the image display or emacs command from that same xterm
with Ctrl-C, the system would log me out of the X session (at least one xterm
window is still active).
I would appreciate your continued help. Thank you.
