su is not what is used to be

Hello,

I'm getting responsible for more and more alpha's (V 3.2) and want
to set up a modem for dial in from home. With older systems you can
simply login with your own name and then su to root.
Digital UNIX won't let me do it. And even if I could su, the man page
for su tells me that I won't get all the priviliges as in the old
days.
How to su from home and get all the privs I need? (and I want to
stick with BASE security).

(And no, we don't have the media and doc's yet...).

Please reply to dehartog_at_comcons.nl and I'll summarize.
