System boot messages not going into /var/adm/messages

 SysAdmins,

  Recently one of our Alphas running OSF1 V3.2
  stopped sending boot-up messages to the
  /var/adm/messages file. I looked at the uerf
  output but the bootup massages were not there
  either - it did mention the shutdown/startup
  events but no boot messages.
