Dear osf-managers,
I have a problem defining a Telnet printer on a DECserver 90M. I
have followed all definition steps in the 'Gunide to ethernet communincation
servers'. I understand that this document applies on the 90TL and the 700
servers, but what could be special to the 90M ?
I could test the printer port and see the test pattern on the
specified printer port. I could even telnet to the TCP port I assigned to
the Telnet Listener on that port, i.e. 2008, and everything I typed appeared
on the terminal I connected in place of the printer for testing. The above
guide assumes the ULTRIX for its instructions on how to setup the printer
for "lpr". I assumed it should work for my OSF/1 3.2C. When I send a file to
the printer using lpr, it is left on the queue and never sent to the printer.
The printcap entry is :
=======================
lp1|dutprint:\
:lp=_at_hoftm1/hoftm18:\
:sd=/usr/spool/lpd1:
The /etc/hosts contains an entry for 'hoftm1' :
192.168.1.37 hoftm1
The /etc/services contains an entry for the TCP port :
hoftm18 2008/tcp # printer on 90M
Everything is fine on the server side, i.e. the Telnet listner is
enabled, and the prot characterisitics are setup properly.
The Network Access S/W version is 1.5, BL95-32 ROM version is 4.1.
What could be wrong ? I think it's the lpd itself. Could there be something
wrong with the "getservbyname()", function the lpd is using to resolve port
number ?
I need your help make this work for the 90M as well as for the 90TL. By the
way I have not tried it for the 90TL yet, but I guess I will get the same
result.
Thank you in advance ..
