This list is really great! I got a lot of help for how to access my
SCSI disks and we are now using them without any problems. As an
example of the advices I got I am here listing the one from

The problem when adding a NEW CONTROLLER is that there is no entry in
the configured kernel for the controller and nor for the devices. In
this case doing just MAKEDEV will not allow you to access the drives.
The solution is either to: (this one is supported by DEC)
1: copy /genvmunix to /vmunix
2. reboot
3. save /sys/conf/SYSNAME to SYSNAME.save, then run do-config
4: re modifiy the sys/conf/SYSNAME file and re run "do-config -c" to
fix the customized options in SYSNAME.save and which were
overwritten
n ,by "do-config"
or:
1: edit the /sys/conf/SYSNAME file to add the controller definition
and the devices (you can inspire yourself from the GENERIC config
file or just boot /genvmunix and see the boot messages informing you
about the new added controller

I apologize that my problem was `so trivial' but when you do this for
the first time you are not sure where to look for relevant information.
