Hello all:

I originally asked about the compatibility of my old VRT19c monitor
with the PBXGA-AA graphics card that I will be using when I upgrade
my old DECstation 5000/240 to a new Alphastation 250 4/266. I've gotten
a number of helpful responses, and this is what they said:

The PBXGA-AA card (TG8, 8 plane PCI graphics accelerator) can be
configured from the console to put the video sync onto the green video
line, which is what the VRT19c expects. Any one of a number of SVGA
type cables with the compact D-15 connector on the card end and the RGB
BNC connectors on the other end should work. (Some cables will have
more connectors on the monitor end, but they can be ignored.) The trick
is to set the card up from the console of the Alphastation. If it was
not already set up properly from the factory (not likely, since the card
supports such a wide varieties of monitors), the easiest thing to do
would be to connect a VT type terminal to the machine and use it as the
console to set up the environment variable:

SET TGA_SYNC_GREEN 1

The machine must be powered up with the keyboard and mouse disconnected
from the workstation, so it uses the VT terminal as console. You can,
in theory, try to do this directly through the graphics console, since
the keyboard will be functional, but it's nice to see what you're doing.
