Telnet Woes

Hello All --

I have a terminal server that telnets to Alpha host A, does an invisible
login, and displays a menu prompting users for the host of their choice.
Users are dialing in via modem to the terminal server, with baud rates
ranging from 2400 up to 28800.

About 5% of the time, the users see the letter x after the menu, or just
can't type anything in at the menu.

I've been looking through the archives of this group, and have found that
if a modem is directly connected to an Alpha (3300 running OSF v2.0)
entries can be put in /etc/inittab and /etc/gettydefs to better handle
the higher baud rates.

Since my users are coming in via telnet (from the terminal server) I'm
wondering if there is a comparable telnet command/subcommand? I haven't
been able to find anything in the telnet docs.

Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance,
