In the First week of December, I asked 7 questions concerning
DU 3.2b and associated software. Several asked for a summary
so here it is, question by question. Thanks to all who
responded!!!!

1.) Is there a way to 'setenv DISPLAY' to more than
one display (ie to many displays in a classroom)?
a.) From: Ian Piumarta <piumarta_at_prof.inria.fr>
There are two packages that I am aware of that let you do this.
The first is called "xmx" (for X multiplexor). It allows you to broadcast
the conversation between an X client and an X server to many X servers,
so that the client's operation is displayed on many screens simultaneously.
I have set this up in the past for demos of mathematica type software, and it works well if you practice a bit to find out where its strengths and
weaknesses are. I don't know if it compiles on 64-bit architectures --
you'll have to find out for yourself.
I had a quick look using archie but could only find something called "libXmx" which is probably (but not definitely) something different.
The second is called "xtv" and is a more ambitious beast. It does similar
things to the xmx program, but also allows you to pass control to the other
participants in the session -- so any of the connected screens can become the"controlling" screen. In practice it seemed less reliable than xmx, although that was a long time ago and things might have changed since then.

2.) Where can I find the latest versions that will
*compile AND run* on Digital Unix 3.2b, for:
TeX, LaTeX, Ghostview, Ghostscript, perl, elm.
( I can't get perl, elm, or Ghostview to compile and
I can't find the distrib point for Tex, LaTeX)
a.) From: n.madden_at_bureau.ucc.ie
Look in
http://www.digital.com/info/misc/pub-domain-osf1.txt.html for a
list. BTW: I got perl to compile just fine. Do you have gcc working?
Another great sourse for DEC UNIX/OSF1 stuff is the archive for the mailing
list

c.) Ghostview may be got from

        ftp.cs.wisc.edu:/pub/X/ghostview-1.5.tar.gz
d.) From: Sydney Weinstein <syd_at_myxa.com>

3.) Why is it that PINE works on CDE, but mail, mailx
and dtmail can't function properly. (they can
read the mail, but can't delete massages
                "mailx: cannot lockf /usr/spool/mail/austin")
                - again PINE works fine.
**I didn't get an answer on this one. I am importing the mail directory
via NFS from a DEC5000/240 running Ultrix4.4. Any ideas?**
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
4.) Is there anything wrong with running yp on a system
of about 70 Alphas?? (One primary and 2 secondary servers)
**Received ZERO comments on this one**
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
5.) Is dtwm the only window manager that will run in CDE?
**Received ZERO comments on this one**
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
6.) Is there a way to convert mail folders from the Ultrix
'dxmail' format to something that PINE will
                understand?
a.) From: Kazuro FURUKAWA <furukawa_at_kek.jp>
If you don't use standard dtmail, how about chosing Exmh instead of
PINE. If you used dxmail, you love it. It's based on Tcl/Tk, can
handle many MIME features, is available from

http://www.smli.com/~bwelch/bwelch.html
I heard that recent PINE has MH interface, which dxmail and exmh are
based on, thus I think you can access dxmail folders.
b.) From: Brian Leverson <brian_at_aa.washington.edu>
You can make PINE understand dxmail or any Rand Mail Handler application by
making the following changes to your .pinerc file. I guess this is something
of an undocumented feature.
inbox-path=#mh/inbox
folder-collections=#mh/[]

7.) Has anyone tried the newest SoftWindows for DU 3.2b?
(will it run in TrueColor? current version
won't run on my 600 5/266 unless we run in
                -vclass PseudoColor.......)
