Summary: Can't read OSF/1 tarfiles on SunOS!?

The tar command is very buggy in OSF/1 version 3.0 and later. The solution is
to complain about it to Digital and then install the subset "obsolete
utilities" which gives you a "new old" tar which you can use instead of the
buggy one!
