Hi there,
I'm getting a bit worried about some rumours I heard.
This is our current setup:
- network: we have a segmented network connected over bridges to a Hub (ChipCom)
- machines: 1 Alpha 2100, 1 Alpha 3000/300 and 10 older Ultrix-Mips machines (1 2100, 2 5100 and 7 5240) balanced over the 4 segments.
In the near future (February), we will replace the 10 Ultrix machines by 8 Alphas 2000.
I have heard that the network cards on the 2x00 family machines are that fast that some slower devices (like bridges) can't keep up with the speed and will cause a lot of collisions.
I'm not a network expert, so, need I start worrying ? And if I do, can something be done about it (somebody mentioned to me replacing the bridges by switches) ?
Any experiences as too my worries will be much appreciated.
