Thanks for the input -- DEC support couldn't figure this out, but the AOM did in
less than 6 hours. Good Job! Unfortunately, I deleted the messages I received
on my problem, so I can't give credit where credit is due.

here's the story:

Win95 and Macs were able to do NFS mounts to my HP boxes, but not my DECs,
while 45 WFW PC's were able to do NFS mounts to both systems. When the
Win95/Macs would mount a DEC nfs drive, nfsv2.0 activity would stop on the DEC,
dropping all the PC's NFS Mount points. I was running 128 nfsd, but would start
getting overflow sockets when the non-WFW machines mounted drives.

The solution was 1 byte: NFS_LOCKING in the rc.config file was turned on. DEC
swore up and down that locking would not produce that effect, and that turning
locking off would decrease performance. But it worked, and speed is fantastic.

thanks for all the replies. This was my first posting to the group, and I will
definitely keep them coming.
