The situation: We're migrating an ULTRIX 4.4 system to a Digital Unix
3.2C system. We want to move passwords.
For reasons that precede me, the ULTRIX system is running UPGRADE level
security, as well as using BIND/Hesiod to distribute passwords. We're
using local authentication on the Digital UNIX system, and ENHANCED
security.
I tried copying /var/dss/namedb/src/auth over, and running
/usr/sbin/secauthmigrate on it, and it didn't work. Well, it worked, but
the passwords didn't. I think look at Section C.1.5 in the Digital Unix
Security manual, and it's basically gibberish about how security levels
between Digital UNIX and ULTRIX aren't analogous, and that password
encryption is different. It seems to contradict itself, however, by
saying that a Dig. UNIX system has no direct equivalent to ULTRIX UPGRADE
security, and then telling us that SECSETUP leaves things at ULTRIX UPGRADE
level. Huh?
I assume someone out there has gotten this to work. Any ideas?
