Hi,

I have been asked to recommend a replacement for a 3000/400 AXP
that we have here. I don't have much experience in this sort of
exercise and could use your help. This system currently serves
as the preferred host for 25 VXT terminals that boot off an
Infoserver. Most users just connect to it in order to rlogin
to several other systems. No compute intensive work is done
on this system. We also want it to be the boot server for our
DECnis 600, but as I understand it, this wouldn't require more
horsepower than we already have.

The system has approx 1.2Gig of swap space spread over 2 disks,
each of which is on a different SCSI bus. It's only using 25%
of that space. The system averages a load of 12.5, with an
average of 90 users. I have included the output of vmstat
below. The system has 94Meg of memory.

Virtual Memory Statistics: (pagesize = 8192)
  procs memory pages intr cpu
r w u act free wire fault cow zero react pin pout in sy cs us sy id
  5434 24 2627 108 5897 31M 6M 11M 3M 13M 1M 817 209 1K 25 69 5

The operating system is OSF 1.3.

Will we see much change with the operating system upgraded to the current
version of DU? At this point the only thing I'm fairly sure of is that
the system could use more memory. I have looked www.digital.com and
continue to do so. Any help given will be much appreciated.
