Xdec question

Hi Managers,

I have an Alphastation 250 4/266 running DUNIX v3.2c. On occasions, when
I look at the system with a w command, I see anywhere from .15 to .30
system loading, even when there ia apparently nothing else going on.
I have used the TOP utility, which seems to show that the Xdec program
is running just below the top program itself. Xdec seems to be followed
closely by xdm. When the system is freshly started, Xdec takes about 3.5M
of resident memory. But as the system runs, I think the RES memory of Xdec
actually goes up quite a bit (don't remember how much). According to the
man pages on Xdec, it's supposed to start up the X server. On my older OSF
systems (v1.3a and v2.0), I don't find Xdec running at all after the system
starts up, so I'm guessing that it just goes away after starting up the X
server. Is this situation different now in v3.2c? I have the
-terminate flag in the Xserver file in all three systems, if that makes
any difference. If it's not supposed to hang around eating up
resources, what could be wrong with my setup, and how can I fix it?

thanks for any information on this
eyc
