Thanks to all those people who replied - some within 20 mins! Included are:

My original question was :

>I have an Alpha 3000/300 running OSF1 v3.0 that's suddenly started
>pumping the message 'vmunix: fcntl: Local lock-manager not registered'
>onto the console log and /var/adm/messages at about 15 minute intervals,
>especially if no-one is logged in.

>Anyone got any ideas what's going on?

And the answer was that NFS-locking was not enabled. The solution: first
do a 'ps -e' to see if /usr/sbin/rpc.lockd and /usr/sbin/rpc.statd are
running (no), then run nfssetup and answer yes to the question about
'NFS locking to be enabled?'.

Thanks again to all and everyone for such a quick response!
