New scsi adapter -> stale NFS handles ?

We plan to add another scsi adapter (f&w) to our NFS server (Decstation 3800)
I have the following question:

Will this hardware addition lead to 'stale NFS handle' when rebooting with a
new kernel or do we have to do unmount/mount on all of our clients ?

The reason I ask is that last Friday we patched the server with some AdvFS
and nfs patches (big ones). I then expected some kind of 'oops'es but
everything went smoothly. Of course we hope for the same kind of behaviour
this time but want to be on the safe side before doing the install. Any
advice in doing this the way of least resistance ?
