Dear Managers,
On one of our DEC 3000 AXP's running OSF/1 v3.2, xdm has failed several times
in the past couple of days, dumping core and whoever was logged in. The core
dump is charged to root, not the user of the moment.
The X configuration of this workstation had not been changed since v3.2 was
installed.
The xdm-errors file reads like this (we aren't running DECnet; xdm is process
506, and I have no idea what 2816 is):
Creating DECnet socket: Protocol not supported
error (pid 506): Server for display :0 terminated unexpectedly: 2816

XIO: fatal IO error 32 (Broken pipe) on X server ":0.0"
after 429 requests (428 known processed) with 0 events remaining.
The connection was probably broken by a server shutdown or KillClient.

I checked the integrity of xdm and many of its support files against known
working copys on another machine; they are identical.
Any clues?
