SUMMARY: AF not compatible with Digital Unix 3.2D?

I figured it out shortly after posting. At boot time, /sbin/rc2.d/S35streams
calls "/usr/sbin/strsetup -i". This is supposed to build all the stream
devices on every reboot. I had rebooted many times since upgrading, so
this should have been in place. But I ran it anyway and it created the
bba device. I have no idea why it failed to create the device until then.

I presume that the major,minor numbers for the /dev/streams devices depend
on your particular kernel and not on the version of the operating system.
I've had a number of different values reported.

I also looked at MME 2.0. It is much improved over previous versions,
but still not perfect. Since I've had trouble with AF on AlphaStation 200
and 250 machines, and have only gotten core dumps on AS 600's, I'll give
MME a try for a while and see how it feels. I get the sense that development
on AF was abandoned many moons ago.
