comsat, shutdown hanging on bad entries in wtmp (OSF/1 3.2)

I've installed the clock_dunix patches on my OSF/1 3.2 system, and
recently rlogind left a couple of bogus login entries in wtmp for a
couple
of logins. After those bogus entries started hanging around, comsat
(running as the user listed in the bogus wtmp entries) started hanging
in
state "U" (uninterruptable sleep). After a time, the user complained
because he was unable to run any more processes and I couldn't kill the
hanging comsat's at all.

When I used shutdown to try to gracefully take the system down, it too
hung in state "U" :-(

The only other patches to this system were the security patches released
last fall. Are there any patches for comsat and shutdown that I have
missed? I've checked the osf/v3.2 directory on ftp.service.digital.com,
and there doesn't seem to be anything specific to this problem listed in
that directory.

Thanks for any help,
Guy Helmer
