Dump/restore suprise

I back up a set of partitions onto a single tape using something along these
lines

dump -0uN /home
dump -0uN /usr
dump -0u /

and read the output from dump to see if every thing went OK. It has
always seemed to. I have restored from the tapes before with no problem.
Just now when I restored a partition restore wanted me to insert a second
volume, when all the dumps fit on one tape.

Can I trust dump when it says the dumps have completed OK, or is there
something I have missed?

Thanks.
