Hello All,

In November I mailed the following:

Hay,

We are facing frequent freeze of the console monitor when running
Netscape, in both versions 1.1 and 2.0 beta. This happens with the
Alpha box which is running OSF/1 3.0 and less frequently with the
others which run 2.0 and 3.2C. The error message that appears on the
screen has the form

netscape: X Error of failed request: BadDrawable (invalid Pixmap or Window para
meter)
Major opcode of failed request: 66 (X_PolySegment)
Resource id in failed request: 0x2400199
Serial number of failed request: 2884
Current serial number in output stream: 2886

Interesting enough the VXT2000+ x-terminal attached to the problematic
box can somehow handle the errors and shows the Netscape screen. Any ideas
on how to circumvent this?

Thanks to Ray Bellis (Ray.Bellis_at_psy.ox.ac.uk) and to Gyula Szokoly
(szgyula_at_skysrv.Pha.Jhu.EDU) I realized that one of our consoles has PXG
graphic card (PMAG-DA) and that the solution was to upgrade the Open 3D
version of that machine which runs DU 3.0. This was provided by Digital's
local service (Open 3D V.2.6-EC014) and we would also like to thank them for
this. After Open 3D reinstallation Netscape 2.0 is working fine, whithout
any screen freeze, although the above mentioned errors continue to occur
- but they can be simply ignored.

I have heard several times through this list that PXG graphic cards will
not be supported by DU 4.0. This would prevent us to upgrade such machines
or otherwise would enforce adittional expenses in changing cards. Is this
fair?
