I am trying to boot a Sun 3/60 with bootp off of my AlphaServer 1000
running DU 3.2D. I have bootp/rarpd/tftpd all setup, and they have been
functioning to assign ip addresses to PC's, and to send bootfiles to
printers. However, I am having difficulty trying to boot a Sun with
Xkernel. I am able to get the bootfiles manually with tftp, so there is
no problem there. I have rarpd/bootpd/tftpd all running in verbose
and/or debug mode at the highest level. The Sun machine requests, and
gets the correct IP from rarp, but bootp never says anything about that
ip or mac address, seemingly ignoring the Sun. I don't have much
experience with bootp, so I may have done something wrong, here is the
entry from my bootptab file:
phoe:\
        :hn:ht=ether:\
        :ha=080020069FD1:\
        :ip=129.171.56.69:\
        :sm=255.255.0.0:\
        :gw=129.171.32.4:\
        :hd=/tftpboot:\
        :bf=boot.sun3.sunos.4.1.1:
Also, although this may be getting a bit off the subject, the sun will
say "le: missed packet" and "tftp: time-out." Does this indicate a
problem with the alpha or the sun? If anyone has X Kernel running in a
similiar situation, or has a similiar configuration, please let me know.
Thanks. I will gladly summarize the results.
