The QUESTION WAS:
-----------------
Today one of my users try to use dbx and he got:
Valid license for one of the following required when not using dbx on kernel.
Product OSF-DEVTK (OSF Developer's Toolkit): No license found.
Product OSF-DEVTK-USER (OSF Developer's Toolkit Concurrent Use): No license foun
d.
Product OSF-DEVTK-G (OSF Developer's Toolkit Type G): No license found.
Product OSF-DEV (OSF Developer's Extensions): No license found.
Product OSF-DEV-USER (OSF Developer's Extensions Concurrent Use): No license fou
nd.
Product OSF-DEV-G (OSF Developer's Extensions Type G): No license found.
Does this mean that Digital Unix requires a LICENSE in order to use
dbx? So I got a free C compiler but I cannot debug? Is it true or I have
a problem in my system?
The unanimous ANSWER (and I quote Dr. Thomas P. Blinn from DEC, -I cannot be
-------------------- more clear than this-):
Your base Digital UNIX license grants you the right to use dbx on the
kernel, but not on anything else. In fact, if you carefully read the
software product description (SPD) you will see that you DID NOT GET A
FREE C COMPILER. We include the compiler so you can install the
kernel; part of the steps of installing the software on the system
require the compiler. You don't get the right to use it for any other
purpose as part of the base operating system
license.
My apologies on behalf of Digital if this was not clear to you when
you made your system purchase.
The right to use the C compiler and other development tools for
purposes of your own choosing is part of a separate software license.
Workarounds?:
