Dear fwtk users and/or Digital Unix managers (hopefully "and" ;-)
We plan to evaluate the TIS fwtk on a Digital Unix (aka OSF/1)
platform (either Alpha Station or AXPpci 33 Alpha PC motherboard).
-> Did some of you already implement this hard/soft combination ?
-> What are the caveats, patches, compiler options tweaks, etc ...
Please give details about OS version, compiler used, fwtk version,
security mode (base, C2, ...) and use of associated Digital Unix
tools such as Security Compliance Manager or Intrusion Detector.
We are aware of solutions like 1) Digital Firewall for Unix or
2) Fwtk + Linux for Alpha but try to avoid them if possible :
1) (DFU + DUnix) for performance reasons (as revealed in
the Data Comm report :
http://www.data.com/Lab_Tests/Firewalls.html),
2) (Fwtk + AlphaLinux) because we don't want to learn an other OS
and want to benefit from DUnix security features.
Of course, your comments on the above statements are welcome !
For instance :
1) may have been optimized since the test,
2) we assume that fwtk is a good performer since the fwtk-kernel
based Gauntlet is well ranked in the test but this kind of assumption
is far to be automatically granted.
I will summarize if I crop relevant information.
