Hello and thank you for taking the time to help.
We're currently using osf 3.0 and we have no REAL reason to upgrade.
We purchased 9 Sables (2100), 4 Alpha 3000 (Mod 600), and 2 Mustangs with
the following software licenses:
1. DEC UNIX, (OSF/1) Version 3.0
2. POLYCENTER Advance File System Utilities for OSF/1 AXP, Ver 3.0
3. POLYCENTER Manager on NetView for DEC UNIX AXP, Version 3.12
4. POLYCENTER Performance Data Collector for OSF/1 AXP, Version 1.4
5. POLYCENTER System Watchdog Agent for OSF/1 AXP, Version 2.2
6. POLYCENTER Security Intrusion Detector for OSF/1, Version 1.2
7. POLYCENTER Security Compliance Manager for OSF/1 AXP, Version 2.4
8. POLYCENTER Network Save and Restore for OSF/1 AXP, Version 3.0
9. POLYCENTER Path Doctor, Version 1.0
10. ESL EXM Mail (X.400)
The machines have been up for almost a year. Also of consideration is
the fact that the systems are "live" - that is other machines depend
on them being up now. Anyway, given this background, my questions are:
1. What benefits would we gain by switching to 4.0 ?
2. How easy an upgrade is it?
3. Can we preserve all the old files sytems and
configuration files?
4. How much downtime could we expect?
Thanks,
Larry
